how can you tell the cake has spoiled?
filed in Food & Drink on Nov.03, 2009
I bought a whipped cream cake a few days ago and kept it in refrigerator.
I didn’t look at it thoroughly when i bought it, but now there were pinkish spots on the whipped cream (only of the top layer). I couldn’t decide if it’s molder or just decoration.
Anyone know what are those pinkish spot?

It’s the food coloring in the decorations "bleeding" out. There is nothing wrong with it. When the cake itself turns into a dried sponge, then it’s past time to toss the thing to the curb.

i’m not really sure, but as a tester, you could take a pink spot off, and feed it to your dog! If not, just remove all the pink spots amd eat it. If your unsure, take a long metal stick – or just a fork – and stick it into the cake. Pull it out. If it has anything on it – apart from whipped cream – its bad.
